Beyond the Curriculum
At Sophia High School, we believe in a future of education in which children are given the chance to be creative thinkers. This involves offering them an array of opportunities to explore beyond the curriculum, led by our fully-qualified teachers who are dedicated to providing high-quality online schooling in a way that makes sense for the 21st century.
Performing Arts & Public Speaking
West End London Musical Star Maria Coyne teaches Performing Arts and Public Speaking at Sophia High School during term-time and half-term breaks. Most recently, she joined our Online Secondary School Teaching Team with our senior students to teach them Shakespeare’s Romeo And Juliet. Trained at the world-renowned Italia Conte, Maria has played some of the biggest roles on the West End Stage – including Gilinda in Wicked, Christine in Phantom of the Opera, Anna in The King and I and Kathy Seldon in Singing in the Rain, but to name a few.
In the last week of January 2021, Maria offered our students a Performing and Dramatic Arts workshop. Maria’s workshop introduced the children to the core concepts of the dramatic arts, as an important part of the English curriculum – as we develop confidence, performance and public speaking skills in our students.
Maria is also offering her popular online Performing Arts Camp, both to Sophia High and external students, during half-term break. Head over to Sophia X to register your interest.

Mental Health Awareness
At Sophia High School, we believe in the importance of mental health awareness, which is why we partnered with Dominic Watts from the Free Spirit Collective to offer our students mindfulness workshops during mental health awareness week.
Building skills for the 21st century is essential, which is why we also offer our students coding workshops on top of the National Curriculum for England. From Scratch to Python, these workshops are a way for our students to express their creativity and curiosity.
As a way to inspire our students, we like to invite experts in their field to host career workshops at Sophia High.
For example, we welcomed palaeontologist, Dr Ashley Reynolds, who led workshops both in the primary and the senior school and shared her experiences in this field.
