At Sophia High, safeguarding is a priority and given our virtual school, online education environment. This means ensuring that we protect our students, staff and data who are part of our online education learning community.
What is cyber security and why should it matter for Virtual Schools in the UK?
Cyber security is about protecting the devices we use, and the services we access online from theft or damage. It is also about preventing unauthorised access to the vast amounts of personal data we store on these devices and in online accounts.
Cyber security is important because smartphones, computers and the internet are now such a fundamental part of modern life, that it is difficult to imagine how we would function without them. From online banking and shopping, to email and social media, it is more important than ever to take steps that can prevent cyber criminals getting hold of our accounts, data, and devices.
Cyber Essentials certification is an important part of the Online Education Accreditation Scheme soon to launch by the U.K. Department for Education as they begin the inspection process for online schools in the UK. At Sophia High School we are delighted to be recognised for our best practice in Cyber Security.
The Cyber Essentials certification, which is developed by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) gives us protection against a wide variety of the most common cyber attacks, so we can keep our teachers and students safe online.
