Sports Education at Sophia High School
Sports play a significant role in the development of many of our students as our flexible model of online education enables students to pursue a wide variety of sports and high level athletic development outside of school.
From competitive gymnastics to swimming, tennis, golf and martial arts, to team sports like football, lacrosse and hockey, learning at Sophia High School enables our students achieve academic success without giving up on their dreams.
From the 2023 – 2024 academic year, we will be the first British Online School to commit to Sport Education by launching a groundbreaking Student Athlete Development Program in partnership with the Hill Academy Canada)
Academic excellence with athletic performance in collaboration with the Hill Academy (Canada)
With a focus on the development of elite and talented athletes, students will be able to join Sophia High School and benefit from the rigour of a British Education, on location from the Hill Academy Campus located just outside of Toronto, Canada
This unique athletic development school program for students from Year 9 upwards, will combine the academic excellence of the British Curriculum at Sophia High School with athletic performance and coaching from The Hill.
This unique program will utilise the passion for sports to enable our student-athletes to reach the next level. Whether the goal is to reach the post-secondary, national, international, or professional level, our staff is committed to developing a strong foundation, which will be the springboard for future success. Student-athletes will be counselled and coached on the opportunities available to them at the next level, whatever that may be.

Ice Hockey
The Hill Academy Hockey Department is dedicated to enabling our student-athletes to reach their highest level of achievement. Whether the goal is to reach the post-secondary, national, international, or professional level, our staff is committed to developing a strong foundation, which will be the springboard for future success.
Hill Hockey incorporates intensive on-ice training and skill development, leading strength and conditioning, professional level coaching, sports psychology and team
Lacrosse
Hill Lacrosse players are mentored by some of the top leaders in the game. Hill Coaches walk alongside our players through their experience at The Hill providing direction and mentorship. The ultimate goal of The Hill Lacrosse program is to help our players become well equipped for the demands of the next level.
Currently The Hill Academy has alumni attending and thriving at Canadian Universities as well as American NCAA Colleges at the Division I, II, and III levels.
Golf
The Hill Academy Golf student-athletes train at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley’s practice facilities and courses and work with elite junior instructor Tyler McGhie.
Hill Golf student-athletes also receive support from TPC Toronto’s team of staff professionals, and play in competitions against other high-level teams in Canada and United States throughout the calendar year.

Program elements for student-athletes include full swing and short game instruction, mental game and performance coaching, fitness training, two winter training camps in the southern U.S. and more.
McGhie, who has spent his career instructing players from high-level juniors and amateurs to PGA TOUR winner D.A Points, will lead the instruction program including individualized plans for long-term player development, utilizing state-of-the-art techniques including 3D biomechanics and TrackMan
