We design a bespoke educational programme around your child, aligning timetable, curriculum, pastoral care and—where relevant—training and competition schedules.
We are one of the very few British online independent schools in the world offering this level of tailored provision and premium family support, combining the rigour of a traditional private school with the flexibility and reach of a global online model.

What families tell us.
“
Our child is very well supported by the academic and pastoral staff, and has really enjoyed the enrichment activities on Fridays. The tutors are wonderfully flexible, and our child has thrived this year. I would wholeheartedly recommend Sophia High School.

Sophia provided exceptional support from the day he joined — a patient, tailored approach built entirely around his needs. Within two weeks his enthusiasm for learning had returned, and he became noticeably happier, more engaged, and eager to talk about his subjects.

Ever since joining Sophia, I have been supported and guided through my educational journey. Teachers and students create such a kind and welcoming environment, and learning is presented in a unique way through an online setting. For me, Sophia has always been a place of positivity and care.

The problem with one tutor
A tutor solves the timetable. It doesn’t solve the education.
Families arrive from at-home schooling in the UK and from full-time private tuition. Both give attention. Neither gives a school.
01
One adult, one point of view
A single tutor, however excellent, is one person's subject knowledge, one teaching style and one relationship. Sophia gives your child a Head of Department in every subject — and no dependence on any one of them.
02
Learning alone
Children need to argue a point, present to a room and be beaten to an answer occasionally. A child taught alone at home rarely does. Sophia pupils sit in classes of six to eight, every day, with peers across dozens of countries.
03
No structure to inherit
When a tutor leaves, the education leaves with them. A school holds the curriculum, the records, the assessment data and the university pathway — so a change of staff is never a change of plan.
04
Constant travel, constant renegotiation
Relocations, seasons, competitions and training blocks. Arranging tuition around them is a logistical project every few months. Sophia moves with you: same school, same teachers, same timetable, every time zone.
05
Nothing that counts on paper
Private tuition produces no accreditation of its own. Sophia is a DfE-registered British independent school and a Pearson Edexcel Accredited Virtual Centre — IGCSEs and International A-Levels, sat remotely if you prefer, recognised by universities worldwide.
06
Six figures for a single teacher
Full-time residential tuition is commissioned at six-figure annual packages, for one member of staff. Sophia delivers an entire school — timetable, specialists, pastoral care, examinations and university guidance — at British independent school fee levels.
“
“The question isn’t whether you can afford a full-time tutor. It’s whether one is what your child actually needs.”
The comparison
A full-time tutor and a full online school, side by side.
A full-time private tutor
One teacher across every subject
A six-figure annual package, plus travel, accommodation and agency fees
Bespoke, but taught alone
Continuity depends on one individual staying
Curriculum, assessment and university strategy sit with the family
Sophia High School
A UK-qualified subject specialist per subject
£9,600–£13,455 per year (+VAT for UK residents)
Classes of six to eight, live and cameras on, every day
A school holds the record, the data and the plan, whoever is teaching
DfE-registered, COBIS and ISA member, Pearson Edexcel Accredited Virtual Centre, approved UCAS centre
The Sophia Difference
A British independent school built for families who move.
Online home education, delivered as a school: live, structured and deeply personal, with the infrastructure of an established British institution behind every lesson.
01
Small classes that make every child visible
The attention that makes private tuition worth paying for, with the discussion that tuition cannot provide. A strict maximum of eight pupils in core subjects means your child's teacher knows exactly where they are in their work, every day.
02
100% live lessons — never passive content
Fostering strong relationships and connections between learners, teachers and parents, so every lesson is personalised. Small classes aren’t a feature; they’re the foundation of everything we do.
03
Qualified master teachers in the classroom
Every core lesson is taught by a specialist with live visual presence. Lessons are recorded to each student’s Digital Notebook for review any time.
04
Pastoral care built into every day
Every student starts the day with their form tutor in Holistic Horizons. Wellbeing isn’t an afterthought; it’s a daily commitment.
05
A timetable that fits your family’s life
A broad, balanced and flexible timetable featuring academics, pastoral care, and character development through our Friday enrichment programme.
06
Parents are partners, not bystanders
Full visibility of Digital Notebooks, regular progress meetings and a parent dashboard — you see exactly how your child is doing.
life at sophia
Real pupils. Real work. A real school day.
Elite Athletes
Amended timetables for athletes in national and international programmes, on the same British examination pathway as their peers.
Academic core
Pupils are expected to think, make and explain — producing project work that shows genuine understanding, not recall.
Digital learning
From AI to Minecraft, technology is woven into every subject to bring concepts to life and build real‑world skills.
Community & enrichment
Weekly Enrichment, House events, school trips and group projects — the friendships and network a child cannot have alone at a desk.
For high-performance athletes
Elite training and serious study.
High-performance athletes need a school that fits around training and competition — without compromising academic ambition.
Sophia provides a flexible, fully online British education designed to support dual careers: a rigorous timetable of live lessons, personalised support and examination preparation alongside elite training. Where a family would otherwise commission a travelling tutor, Sophia High School can fit into a backpack and goes wherever they do.
Flexible timetables, classes of six to eight and specialist teachers mean your child can compete abroad, train intensively and stay on track for International GCSEs and A Levels — keeping scholarships, university entry and professional sport open at once.

Our Founder
“We are building a Learning Laboratory that challenges traditional models — one that focuses on human connection, high expectations, and the tools to prepare students for a rapidly changing world. This is not a content delivery platform. This is a school.”
- A school built on the belief that education should be personal, rigorous and joyful — for every child, in every location.
- Built by educators, not investors. Every decision is made in the interest of the pupils we serve.
- A community of families who do not compromise — on quality, on care, or on discretion.

Frequently asked questions
Your questions answered.
Both, and that is the point. Sophia is registered with the UK Department for Education as a full-time British independent online school, so your child is home educated in the sense that they learn from home — and enrolled in a real school in every other sense: live daily lessons, a subject specialist per subject, a form tutor, pastoral care, assessment records, IGCSEs and A Levels, and university guidance. Parents choosing home schooling in the UK are not required to teach, plan or assess anything themselves at Sophia. We do that, as any independent school would. What you keep is the flexibility, the location and the control over your child’s day.
Every core lesson at Sophia is taught live by a qualified specialist teacher. We do not use pre-recorded content for core teaching. Lessons are recorded and stored in each student’s Digital Notebook so they can review material at any time — but the teaching itself always happens live, in real time, with a real teacher who knows your child.
Fees for 2026-27 are £9,600 per year for Primary School
(Reception to Year 6), £10,815 for Lower Secondary (Years 7 to 9) and £13,455 for Upper
Secondary (Years 10 to 13, IGCSEs and A-Levels), plus VAT for UK residents. Fees can be
paid annually or termly, sibling discounts are available, and external exam centre fees are
billed separately. Full details are on our School Fees page.
Our commitment to a maximum of 6–8 students in core subject classes is non-negotiable. When a learning pod reaches capacity, we form a new group with a new teacher. This is central to our model and is never compromised. It is precisely why places at Sophia are strictly limited at any given time.
Yes. Sophia High School is a full-time British independent online school, accredited by the UK Department for Education (DfE). We are a member of COBIS and ISA, and a Pearson Edexcel Accredited Virtual Centre. All safer recruiting checks are identical to those carried out by physical independent schools.
Yes. As a Pearson Edexcel Accredited Virtual Centre, we offer Remote Invigilation for IGCSEs and International A-Levels. Your child can sit their examinations from home under secure remote supervision. Exams can also be taken at an approved examination centre if preferred. An additional examination fee applies.
Sophia is a full-time, DfE-registered British online school — not a tutoring service and not a curriculum you deliver yourself. Your child is enrolled in a real school: live daily lessons, a subject specialist per subject, a form tutor, pastoral care, assessment records, examinations and university guidance. Families often keep one or two 1:1 tutorials alongside Sophia for a specific subject; what changes is that the school, not the family, now holds the plan.
Core lessons run Monday to Thursday within an 8am–4pm UK window, with built-in breaks and independent study. Fridays are Enrichment. Every live lesson is recorded, which is what makes Sophia workable for families in other time zones, for elite athletes, and for households that relocate mid-year.
Our small class sizes are inherently more supportive for students with additional needs. Teachers use visual learning cues, adaptive digital tools, and real-time Digital Notebook feedback to personalise every lesson. We work closely with families before enrolment to map individual learning profiles. We also offer dedicated English language support for students where English is an additional language.
Absolutely — and this is one of the reasons many sports academy families choose us. We offer amended timetables for elite athletes and performers, ensuring academic rigour is never sacrificed for sporting ambition. Recorded lessons mean that even when a training session clashes, no learning is missed. A number of our current students compete at national and international level.
No. One school, one set of teachers, one curriculum and one record, wherever your family is based. Enrolment does not change with residency, and there is no re-application, re-assessment or new admissions process when you relocate.
Admissions conversations are handled directly by the school and treated in confidence. We do not publish pupil names or images without written parental consent, and safeguarding and data handling follow the same standards as any British independent school. Where families work through a family office, PA or educational consultant, we correspond with them directly.
