Why is Sophia High School so expensive?

“Why is Sophia High School so expensive?”

I love this question.

There are a million ways we could make Sophia High School cheaper.

And we are not going to do any of them.

We could:
• Pack hundreds of students into generic online classes.
• Strip back live teaching and rely on pre-recorded videos.
• Cut corners on qualified, experienced UK teachers and pastoral staff.
• Skip the costly parts of safeguarding, accreditation, and compliance.
• Treat “online school” as a content platform instead of a real education.

But here’s what you’d lose:

1. World-class teachers, in small classes
We hire qualified, experienced teachers who understand British and international curricula, and we keep class sizes deliberately low. That means your child is seen, heard, challenged and supported every single week – not lost in a Zoom lecture.

2. Deeply personalised pathways, not one-size-fits-all
Our timetable, curriculum choices and assessment model are built around the student, not the school’s convenience. We spend time in one-to-one mentoring, individual progress tracking, and bespoke exam preparation. Personalisation is expensive – but it’s where the real value is.

3. Real-school standards, online
We invest in robust safeguarding, governance and compliance so that Sophia High School operates to high independent-school standards, not “edtech startup” shortcuts. Policies, inspections, quality assurance and rigorous data protection all add cost – and they’re non-negotiable for us.

4. Technology that serves learning, not just scale
Our platforms, digital tools and assessment systems are chosen to improve learning and wellbeing, not just reduce staffing costs. It’s more expensive to design an online school around pedagogy rather than pure efficiency – but that’s the only way it works for families long-term.

5. Holistic support for families, not just students
We give parents real access: regular reporting, direct contact with teachers, pastoral updates, and strategic guidance for next steps (exams, university, performance pathways, relocation).
That level of partnership takes time, expertise and a team behind the scenes.

Could we make Sophia High School cheaper?
Of course.

We could automate more, increase class sizes, reduce pastoral care, cut back compliance work, and hire less experienced staff.

But then it wouldn’t be Sophia High School.
It would just be another online content provider.

Our fees reflect a simple choice:
We exist for families who want a high-performance, high-touch, fully governed online school – not the cheapest possible version of “learning on a screen”.

If price is the main decision factor, there are plenty of cheaper options.

If outcomes, safety, and genuine individual attention matter more, that’s why Sophia High School is “so expensive.”
