NXTLVL Problem-Solving Olympiad: We Finished in 2nd Place!
We are proud to share that, after entering the NXTLVL Problem-Solving Olympiad last week, we have successfully completed our run in the competition and achieved a result that we are sure our staff and supporters will take pride in.
About the NXTLVL Problem-Solving Olympiad
The NXTLVL Problem-Solving Olympiad is a competition made up of different schools from around the world, where teams of five learners between the ages of 8 and 11 compete in a series of matches, with only one team emerging victorious.
We were proud to enter our team of learners, Sophia High Legacy, into the competition. However, uniquely in the competition, we entered with only four learners, compared to the five that most schools fielded. Having four learners limited our access to resources throughout the competition, making our result even more impressive.
Sophia High Legacy's Remarkable Performance
On Thursday, the 24th of October, our learners advanced to the Semi-Finals and, later that evening, the Grand Finals, where we achieved a total of 62 points out of a maximum of 80. We are happy to share that, out of the 16 teams that entered the competition, Sophia High Legacy finished in second place!
The first-place team, Primal Pixels of Alverno Heights Academy, won with 65 points. A huge congratulations to the third and fourth-place teams: St. Mary’s Fighting Fives, who secured third place with 43 points, and St. Mary’s Super Sixers, who took fourth place overall with 39 points in the Grand Final.
Special Recognition and Awards
In addition to our second-place result, we were also awarded the Imagineers Award for demonstrating tremendous creativity and “outside-the-box” approaches to problem-solving. This Power-Skill Award highlights the primary skill that led to our success in this competition.
The NXTLVL Team is developing a single-player “problem-solving club” that you can join the waitlist for now—whether for yourself, a friend, family member, or for professional purposes. Find more information available here: https://www.nxtlvl.ai/
Looking Ahead to Future Competitions
We would like to congratulate our learners on their excellent performance in this competition. It is truly noteworthy that, with only four learners, we came just three points behind the first-place team. We look forward to receiving more details about future Olympiads as they become available. Next time, we’re not coming for second place!
The team’s coach, Tyler Wilson, had this to say about his team’s success:
“This is a huge and important achievement. We were the only team in the Grand Finals with four players—one of only two teams in the Semi-Finals with four players—and we were one round away from winning the entire competition. This is a tremendous feat for the learners, who have shown themselves to be some of the most intelligent and high-capacity individuals of their age group in the world. We are already identifying new opportunities to further enable these learners to compete in the near future.
I attribute our success not to my efforts alone, but to all of the wonderful teachers and learners at Sophia High School, who have created a growth-oriented culture that has nurtured some of the most talented and capable learners this generation will know.
To the four learners who competed for Sophia High Legacy, thank you and congratulations!”
