A school that runs to the race calendar

A season takes your child out of a classroom for weeks at a time — testing, race weekends, travel, simulator work. Sophia High School is built for that kind of year. Lessons are live, small and recorded, and we build the timetable around the calendar you already have rather than asking you to work around ours.

The investment

You already invest in the career. Is the education at the same level?

A season at national level is engines, tyres, testing days, travel, an engineer, a trainer and a coach. You measure all of it. You know what each part returns.

Ask the same question about the schooling. Is it built for this life, or is your child fitting a racing calendar around a school that was not designed to move?

Most drivers do not reach Formula 1. The ones who build a career in the sport — engineering, data, team management, commercial, media — do it with qualifications. The ones who reach the top still run a business, read contracts and manage a public profile. Every route out of the seat needs the same thing.

Education is the one part of the programme that returns in every scenario.

High performance

The same standard in the car and in the classroom

A race team measures everything. Lap time, sector time, tyre temperature, driver input. Nothing waits for an opinion at the end of the season.

Sophia High School works the same way. A core class has six to eight students. Cameras are on. The teacher sees the work as it is written and corrects it in the lesson. Attendance is checked daily. Progress is reported to you every week or two weeks.

Your child holds the same standard in both. Neither one is allowed to take from the other.

Pace

A school day without the dead time

Lessons start

No commute, no registration queue, no waiting for a class of thirty to settle. Lessons are 40 to 45 minutes and they begin.

The day ends at 4pm

Training, gym and simulator time sit around the school day, not after a two-hour drive home.

Work finishes in school hours

Independent work is set in the lesson and completed inside the school day, so the evening belongs to the programme.

What our athletes say

We do not have a driver on the page yet. These are students in other sports, on the same kind of calendar, in their own words.
“Before Sophia, I was constantly choosing between training and school. Now I don’t have to. The flexible schedule allows me to train with the England squad while keeping my grades up.”

Sienna · KS4 · Squash, England Squash

“Representing my country requires total focus. The teachers at Sophia help me manage my workload so I can focus on the match and catch up on academics immediately after without any stress.”

Walid · KS4 · Football, Morocco

“Sophia has greatly improved Sara’s balance between education and training, giving her more time, better health, and a schedule that supports both academic success and high-level sport.”

Subjects

The subjects a driver actually uses

Every student takes English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Double or Triple Award Science and one subject of their choice. Six or seven IGCSEs, then three International A-Levels.

Mathematics and Physics are the entry requirement for motorsport engineering and for data and performance roles. English is what a driver needs in a debrief, in a sponsorship meeting and in front of a camera. A smaller number of subjects is what makes room for the season.

Sophia365

Sophia365, our Friday programme for athletes

Friday is Enrichment. For our elite athletes it is also Sophia365: life skills, personal development, career transition, and equality, diversity and inclusion.

Your child sits in that group with footballers, squash players and other drivers — young people on the same kind of week, who understand what a competition schedule does to an ordinary life.

The transition out of the seat is a certainty, whenever it comes. Sophia365 works on it while your child is still racing, which is the only time it can be done calmly.

See the full programme on our athletes page.

Pathways

Where these qualifications take your child

Engineering and performance

Motorsport engineering, data, vehicle dynamics, human performance. All read Maths and Physics at A-Level.

Team and commercial

Team management, sponsorship, communications, law. A driver who understands a contract negotiates a better one.

University, anywhere

International A-Levels are accepted in the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States, including NCAA eligibility if your child races in America.

Exams

Exams that do not clash with the calendar

At home or at a centre

Exams can be sat at home through the Pearson Edexcel Remote Invigilation Service, for an additional cost, or at a Pearson exam centre in the country you are in.

Planned around the season

IGCSE sittings are in May/June and November. Send us the calendar and we plan entries around it.

FAQs

Questions racing families ask

Attendance is monitored daily and we have high expectations. Planned absence for competition is agreed in advance, and because every lesson is recorded, an absence is not a gap.

Yes, if the school day works with the local time where your child is. See our page for international families.
Yes. We assess on entry and build a plan. Six to eight in a class is what makes it possible.
