Safer recruitment practice and pre-employment background checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. Appointments are subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for regulated activity and overseas criminal records checks for all other countries in which the applicant has lived or worked for three months or more in the past ten years.

This is an initial expression of interest.  Candidates will be invited to complete the full Teacher / Non-Teacher Application form when a suitable role becomes available at Sophia High School

Safeguarding sits at the heart of all recruitment decisions, and all offers of employment are subject to satisfactory pre-employment vetting and checks, as outlined in the statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education and the Education (Independent School Standards) Regulations. These include:
  • Verification of identity
  • Verification of employment history
  • Verification of right to work in the UK
  • Satisfactory references
  • Verification of professional qualifications
  • Verification of medical fitness for the role
  • A satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure including a Children's Barred List Check
  • Satisfactory overseas criminal record checks (where applicable)
  • A satisfactory online and social media search
  • Confirmation that the applicant is not disqualified from working in childcare (roles working with EYFS pupils or later years provision only)
  • Confirmation that the applicant is not subject to a direction under section 128 of the Education and Skills Act 2008 (for management positions only)
For positions which involve teaching work of any kind, we will also require confirmation that the applicant is not, nor ever has been, subject to any prohibition, sanction or restriction order, including a sanction issued by a regulator of the teaching profession in any other country (where applicable).

The interview process will explore candidates' suitability for working with children and their previous experience in such roles. As part of our selection and pre-employment vetting process, applicants should expect the School to seek to clarify any anomalies or discrepancies in the information provided by them or arising from their references.
